In their words
We spoke with Lisa Reynolds, Senior Director, Global Sponsorship Operations & Logistics, about her experience working with EGD

Why did you choose to work with Event Goods Delivered?
We went through a thorough RFP process. We looked at a lot of different vendors and the team really put forward a strong approach regarding sustainability, which was very important for us for these Games.
In addition to that, we wanted to work with a lot of local vendors and also had a need for quite a few bespoke solutions. We wanted our workforce to be comfortable and we wanted to create very functional pieces within the kits. And so between all of that, and then of course, just, Event Goods Delivered's willingness to listen and, work to deliver anything that we brought to them above and beyond. It really was an easy choice. And then of course the budget was right where we needed it to be.
So I would say overall sustainability and local network of vendors, but really we got to work with the people that we wanted to work with to make our lives easier.
What work did EGD do for you during the Paris Games?
They helped us create 600 kits for our workforce on site. My team's responsible for the operational delivery of the payment solutions. So we had quite an army of foot soldiers on the ground representing Visa and ensuring all our solutions were seamlessly delivered. And so we use Event Goods Delivered to create, like I said, the workforce uniform kits and that came in various different shapes and sizes. And we were very successful.
What did you appreciate most about working with EGD?
The willingness to deliver bespoke solutions. Actually, we ended up creating two custom pieces. So a sling, we thought it was really important that our workforce had a piece that they could be a little bit more nimble and flexible with moving around throughout Paris and on the Metro and in and out of all the different venues. So we created a custom sling based off of exactly what I wanted. Something where we could hold their credentials in as well as their supplies. It functioned very well and I know it was extremely sustainable.
And then we created a matching backpack to go with that. And we were really specific about how we wanted that backpack to function. We wanted it to be light. And then we needed it to serve several different needs for our staff on site in terms of the materials that they needed to bring on and off site. So we went through many different rounds of prototypes. The teams also tried on many different rounds of pieces and samples to really figure out what was the most comfortable and what we wanted to use.
So I would say just the Event Goods Delivered willingness to go back to the drawing board with us if we weren't just hitting it quite right. And in the end deliver exactly what we wanted.
What makes EGD different from other merchandise suppliers?
I would say for me personally, the biggest thing is I don't feel like I'm working with a factory or a vendor I feel like I'm working with a partner somebody that's really listening to me and helping me craft the uniform kits that we want our staff to wear. So I just like the size and the feel of the partner that I'm working with most.
What did you appreciate about the pieces EGD provided?
We created quite a large kit and everything that Event Goods Delivered provided did exactly what it was supposed to do. If it was supposed to be a lightweight piece, it was. If staff was supposed to be able to breathe in it and function, be flexible on site, it did that. If it was a comfort piece, it was comfortable. But mostly some of the custom pieces like the backpack and the sling that we created, it was highly functional, which is exactly what we needed for the workforce.
In what way were your sustainability requirements met?
So I'll be honest. I feel like Event Goods Delivered knew way more than I even did. And so I felt like they educated me throughout that process so that we made the right choices. But the easy answer for me is we created pieces that people wouldn't just put in the rubbish bin. People wanted to wear them again. And I think that's one of the most important things we forget about when we talk about sustainability.
It's not just what the piece is made out of, but that it also has a long life cycle. So we did that. We created pieces that people took home with them from the Games.

Designed to meet the needs of the Games and beyond
The Visa team have a very busy time at the Games. They're working in shops, attending events and travelling between venues. They're also being exposed to a variery of climates depending on the varied locations of the sports on show.
So, we worked with the Visa design team to create pieces that would meet the specific needs of the Olympics and Paralympics, but also be adaptable for additional wear after the Games.

Design highlights
-
EGD woked with Visa through multiple design iterations and sample trials to ensure their team had exactly what they needed to thrive.
-
EGD designed 2 entirely bespoke items, a sling and backpack - that were made according to the specific needs of the Visa team.
-
All pieces were designed for re-use at future company events, and for leisure time.

Individual uniform kits, delivered globally
EGD recieved the orders from the suppliers and then picked and packed the items into individual kits for each Visa employee. Some of these packages were delivered into Visa’s HQ, while many were sent individually to employees all over the globe.
Operations Highlights
-
All uniform kits were delivered to the relevant employees on time.
-
EGD used their proprietary merchandise management system to monitor production, manage inventory and allocate products by size to individual visa staff members.
-
The packing order for the uniform kits was determined by the VISA team, with different employee groups receiving different deliveries, and each group having their items listed alphabetically. All this was handled by EGD before the VISA team received the items.

Meeting Visa's sustainability standards with data
One of Visa’s core values is “Preserving Our Planet”, and the sponsorship was for the most sustainable Games yet. Accordingly, at EGD we needed to reach new heights in our approach to sustainability.
We turned to technology: some of it built in-house and some provided by our partners EcoVadis and Greenly. With the data provided from this approach we were able to understand the full emissions profiles of the garments from raw materials to end-of-life.
Sustainability highlights
-
EGD conducted full Lifecycle Assessments for every item created for Visa, calculating the emissions of each individual product.
-
All garments were produced in Europe, and 43% were made in France itself, significantly reducing delivery emissions.
-
We sourced extensively to ensure that recyclable or biodegradable materials were used where possible.

Would you recommend EGD’s services? If so, who to?
I would, and I have I'm responsible for a very specific deliverable in terms of how we show up on site at the Games, but obviously other internal team members have other needs. And so I was sure to connect the dots to make sure that they could also benefit from Event Goods Delivered services and then of course to other partners as well.
It's not just what the piece is made out of, but that it also has a long life cycle. So we did that. We created pieces that people took home with them from the Games.
