In their words

We spoke with Akash Shah, Operations and Programme Officer at ParalympicsGB about his experience working with EGD

Why did you chose to work with Event Goods Delivered?

We were obviously looking at what we required for the Games in terms of our welcome packs and procurement items that we needed. And I think having a search around, it made it quite difficult to get what we wanted. And then when we were put in touch. I think it just felt like you'd be able to deliver what we wanted in the timeframe and exactly how we wanted it, and I think that was just a deciding factor. I think that's just kudos to how you guys are. And how you guys represent your organisation basically. So yeah, that was why we went with you guys.

So supporting on some of our procurement around pin badges, keep cups straws, and were also involved in potential other procurement items. Yeah, there were the three items that they did and we got good praises on all of them. So yeah, thank you.

What work did EGD do for you during the Paris Games?

What did you appreciate most about working with EGD?

I think it was the relationship. It was so easy to speak to Sabrina and Kayleigh around any queries any questions or any concerns. We had a little bit of a an issue in terms of when we should do the first order and the second order and just working with you guys to come to a solution that made it work for both of us was just, it was just amazing. So yeah, I think as an organization, we really appreciated that.

What makes EGD different from other merchandise suppliers?

I think it just goes down to the relationship. I had with you guys, I think with other merchandise it feels very transactional. Whereas with you guys, it felt like more of a joint venture in terms of trying to get us to where we wanted to get to with our procurement, our merchandise, etc. And I think that just makes a big difference to the other companies.

Sustainable choices for success

ParalympicsGB wanted to ensure that while they are committed to inclusivity, that shouldn't come at the cost of enviornmental repsonsibility. The partnership between EGD and PGB emphasised sustainable practices across the entire production process, from materials to delivery.

Sustainability highlights

  • PGB and EGD worked together to cut unnecessary plastic. The pin badge casings, though plastic-like, were made from biodegradable materials.

  • The coffee mugs were crafted from recycled materials, while the straws used recycled stainless steel, minimizing the need for new resources.

  • To minimise the carbon footprint, all products were delivered in a single shipment, reducing the environmental impact associated with transportation.

Designed to be seen, felt
and cherished

EGD’s partnership with ParalympicsGB focused on breaking ground in inclusive design. PGB's mission to foster equality for disabled individuals in sport, education, and society was mirrored in each design choice. It required a level of awareness of the specifications for each item - something we could only achieve through a close collaboration.

Design highlights

  • To make products inclusive for the visually impaired, we ensured the pin badge backing cards were printed in Unified English Braille (UEB).

  • The Lion’s Head pin badge was crafted using a raised enamel technique, allowing users to feel the emblem’s outline and connect with the symbol on a tactile level.

  • EGD sourced coffee mugs that were tapered at the bottom to ensure they could fit a variety of wheelchair cup holders, enhancing usability.

What did you appreciate about the the specific pieces that EGD provided?

I think it's the quality. I had a couple of people mention that the keep cups usually get some of them that as you drink, they drip through the top of the lid and the bottom. Everyone that I spoke to was like, these are one of the best cups we've used. They don't spill. They travel with them. They can put them in their car holders. Pin badges were great. Everyone enjoyed the fact that they could feel the lion's head. The colours were great. I think, yeah, just going above and beyond to deliver what we wanted in that space.

In what way were your sustainability requirements met?

I think from the beginning we wanted to reduce as much plastic as possible. And I think we did that in terms of getting all the products that we could without having any plastic. I know the casings around the pin badges looked like they could be plastic, but they were biodegradable. The keep cups were recycled material. Obviously we had a metal straw. So again, we were doing as much as we could together to ensure that we weren't adding additional plastic and being as sustainable as we can for that. And we tried to do everything in one delivery as well instead of having multiple deliveries coming out to us. So again, that would obviously help in terms of sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint in that area too.

Would you recommend EGD’s services? If so, who to?

Yes, for sure. And I did during the games, I spoke to someone that I think it was Athletics and I passed information over. I would definitely recommend you guys to anyone that wants any merchandise or procured items for sure.
