We spoke with Hope Mullan, Senior Director, Merchandise & Corporate Events at NBC Universal about her experience working with EGD

​​​What work did EGD do for you during the Paris Games?

So we have an Olympic client hospitality programme. And at the previous Games in Paris, we had four waves of 300 guests. So we had four deliveries of gift bags. So EGD did a fulfillment of about 150 tote bags per wave. And then also they sorted through all of our uniforms for our staff and guide programme.

What did you appreciate most about working with EGD?

There's definitely a lot. The team really wanted to know every detail of the programme. So with that said, they were very on about having monthly calls and stayed on track with the delivery schedule. Even if they were a half hour delayed with traffic. I was getting updates. Always on time. Definitely they were experienced. They know what they're doing. So that was a big part of why I wanted to work with them.

We had challenges with how do we pack the tote bags. We don't want to put them in individual boxes and it would have 150 boxes and then I have to tear them down and then recycle them. So Jason did all this research for over a week and they came up with this great solution and he bought this cage on wheels with shelves. So we're able to put the tote bags in order on the cages, and we were able just to wheel 'em in all the way down to my staging area. And we were all just thrilled with that. The hotel was excited about it, we were all thrilled about this new solution.

 

So it just made my job so stress free and just so smooth. And they came all the time with the trucks. They are, they're on site. To make sure that everything was organized the way I asked and they were willing to roll up their sleeves and, do the deliveries and the freight. But but yeah, it was, they just made my job easy. So I appreciated everything that they did.

What makes EGD different from other fulfilment partners?

I would say they're definitely trustworthy was a big thing. They're very thorough and they kept me in the loop of any little issue - that was different. If I provided them the inventory and if they were off, like I heard about it right away. They really cared about if I was short two pieces. They brought everything to my attention. And they were just so accommodating and solution oriented. Yeah, they weren't afraid to ask questions to make sure that they understood everything. They just, they know what they're doing for sure. The experience definitely shows with them.

Would you recommend EGD’s services? If so, who to?

I would definitely recommend them. Just because  all of the above and even the price point in the quote was just so reasonable. So yeah, I would definitely highly recommend that kind of goes unsaid for sure.

Wheel more,waste less

EGD replaced traditional shipment packaging with reusable cage trolleys - this significantly reduced the waste associated with the deliveries. It also meant that the NBC team were not required to break down hundreds of boxes after the items were delivered and distributed.

Sustainability highlights

  • Deliveries were consolidated to reduce the emissions associated with the project.
     

  • Re-usable cages were employed instead of boxes to reduce the neeed for recycling at the end of the project.

Accurate deliveries, and reporting

The use of technology played an important role in ensuring our smooth delivery of NBC’s hospitality programme. Our internal delivery systems enabled efficient tracking of deliveries and inventory, which allowed us to catch any misallocations before they reached the guests.
