Key insights
Our founders’ view on making the most from the upcoming FIFA World Cup
Design
Weather
This World Cup is going to be hot! And possibly cold. With the tournament spread out from Vancouver in the north to Mexico City in the south, the temperatures are expected to range from 36°C / 97°F to 8°C / 46°F overnight. If your teams are travelling across the tournament then you should keep this in-mind with layering and expanded collections. Also look to provide resources to help with heat stress.
Inclusion
While themes of inclusion are less front and centre at the World Cup, than say a Paralympic Games or Womens' World Cup, we think this represents a good opportunity for a brand to stand out from the crowd.
Production
Sustainability
FIFA haven't yet released detailed crtieria for supplied items at the event. However they have pledged to measure and reduce emissions across the full supply chain. Aim for local production with low-emissions materials.
Suppliers
With global trade undergoing a major re-organisation, producing locally will be both the most sustainable and reliable approach for your merchandise.
Materials
Breathable fabrics will be key due to the high temperatures and humid conditions.
Logistics
Transport
Logistics will be the other high-performance activity on show at this World Cup alongside the football! With an average distance of 1,700 km between stadiums across three time zones, ensuring all your team and kit arrive at the right location at the right time will be a monumental challenge.
Borders
Ensuring smooth deliveries across three tightly managed borders is going to be another unique challenge of this event. We'll monitor FIFA's guidance on this matter and work to receive special dispensation when available.
